Should Steph Curry’s rounds have been televised, or at least streamed online?
The answer is yes. The Web.com tour never had that much engagement and buzz on either social media or through their website before. All they did for the event is a live blog and show a few videos of Curry’s best shots.
Yeah, the PGA Tour had a busy week with the WGC event over at Firestone and the Women’s Open as well as a Champion’s Tour event and the Barracuda Championship. However, you have to believe the move of getting Curry a special invitation to the tournament was a well-played card in order to draw much needed enthusiasm and attention to the Web.com tour. The opportunity to reach even more non-golf fans and grow the interest in the game should have been taken a lot more seriously.
A simple live coverage on the Web.com Tour website should have been put up and definitely would have drawn a lot more attention and views that the blog did.
On the other hand, this kind of interest was a first for the tour and you have to believe they won’t miss out on this opportunity the next time it presents itself. Maybe the schedule will be arranged next year so that the event can be shown on the Golf Channel rather than online, who knows?
If you haven’t seen Curry’s highlights this week, here’s a little recap (rather long) of his 36-hole score of 148, thanks to the PGA Tour:
